Last Tuesday St Ursula’s year 7 netballers were invited to the Ursuline cup in East London to celebrate St Angela’s 150 year as an Ursuline school along with 5 other Ursuline schools in London. This was a great honour to be invited to and the girls really enjoyed the day.
Our 1st game was against the hosts St Angela’s and our girls were slow off the mark but a great long range shot from Godgift saw us finish the game 1-1. Next up was against the eventual winners of the tournament and were a very talented team from Wimbledon. St Ursula’s fought really hard in this match but were beaten 3-0 by a very good team with Lisa and Swopna playing exceptionally well. Our last 3 games were against Brentwood, Westgate and Ilford and St Ursula’s fought really hard to get a draw in 2 of those games Player of the Tournament: Swopna Koneswasan

On Friday the 23rd of March, the Year 8 Athletics team, went all the way to Mitcham for the South London Sports hall Athletics competition. The teams entered were from all over South London and had all won their regional heats. The top two teams were to go through to the London finals in Crystal palace on Wednesday the 28th of March. As the day panned out, it became clear that the closest competition was coming from Harris academy in Bromley.
When the final results were read out, we were in the top two, with Harris and it was announced that the competition was as tie for first place. The organisers then declared, the winners would be decided on the result of one race; the obstacle relay, which we won, therefore making St Ursula’s the champions of South London.
So on Wednesday, the girls and Miss. Nash went off to Crystal palace for their forth and final competition, the London schools finals. In each category, there were 10 teams from North, South, East, West and Central London. The competition was exceptionally high, as you would expect from a London final, but again, the St Ursula’s girls showed their amazing talents, abilities and above all determination to carry on to keep performing at the highest level.
After the first few events, it emerged that we weren’t just good, but we were very good, so much so, that a top 3 place was definitely achievable if we maintained our excellent results in the events; these being:
2 lap race, 4 lap race, 6 lap race, 8 lap paarlauf, triple jump, long jump, shot putt, speed bounce, vertical jump and two relays.
With the competition coming to a close, we won the last event, the relay and we then knew we were really in with a chance. The results were read out in reverse order, so we had an agonising wait, from 10 down to the last two. Our name was then read out and we had finished a close second, only 4 points from the winners.
Amazed and proud that we were the second best team in the whole of London, the girls went up to collect their silver medals and have pictures taken with the event sponsor and the girls were even treated to a McDonalds afterwards to thank them for their talents and exceptional efforts.
The second best team in London are: Julia Doukrou, Carla Doukrou, Dabby Njoku, Uwa Guobadia, Divine Olapido, Rachel Ayoola.
They are simply the most talented bunch of Athletes I have ever had the pleasure of working with, now on to retain our outdoor Athletics title in July!

15 of us went to the london soccer dome on march 28th. we were given free yellow t-shirts that we wore for the day. in the morning we did a radio and tv interview and learnt how a sports studio or station worked. Sky sports present Charlie Webster and ex-football paul elliott gave us tips on how to get involved in the sports industry and not just as a player. In the afternoon we played blind football and got some coaching tips from FA coaches this was a new experience and lots of fun
4 of us were then selected to become ambassadors for the FA and those were Laura Manning, Sharna Garland Stevens, Luci Alloh and Nancy Hammond
By Muriel and Jamie
the students that were involved in the day were PE GCSE students

On Tuesday the 6th of March, Julia and Carla Doukrou were chosen to represent Greenwich Borough in the London Schools cross- country championships, at Avery Hill Park. The course is a tough mile and a half long and the girls were competing against all of the very best runners from all over London.
I am delighted to announce that Julia came third and Carla came forth in their race, making them the third and forth best cross- country runners in London!!
Well done for all your hard work, effort and for making St Ursula’s very proud.

Yr 7 and 8 Indoor Athletics competition
On Tuesday the 21st of February, the Year 7 and 8 Athletics team went to the Greenwich Schools Sports hall Athletics finals. There was very tough competition this time around, with the main threat coming from Thomas Tallis school.
The Year 7 team did very well in the field events, winning 3 of them and the Year 8 team excelled at the running events. After the final event took place, we realised it was very close for first place, for both teams.
As the results were read out, we got down to the last two and the Year 7 team narrowly missed out on first place to the winners Thomas Tallis, but the Year 8 team were very worthy winners of their competition and will now go on to represent the borough of Greenwich in the East London finals.
A huge thank you and congratulations to the following girls:
Yr 7- Godgift, Siobhan, Lisa, Sarah, Shanyne, Kevwe, Laura
Yr 8- Divine, Dabby, Julia, Carla, Rachel, Daniella, Uwa
A special mention should go to the following girls who won their event: Godgift, Sarah, Shanye, Divine, Julia, Dabby, Uwa and the Year 8 relay team.
Our Year 8 Athletics team won the Greenwich finals yesterday and will now represent the borough at the East London Finals. The Year 7 team narrowly missed out and came 2nd.
Thanks
Miss. Nash
